  1. hi, your videos on youtube were very informative. But one thing I've been trying to find out is the average cost of the trip. Excluding equipment, and for about a 3 month long trip, that would primarily consist of hostels. How much would you say would be a good amount to have for the trip?

  2. That's a tough one, but I might be able to give some guidance.
First off, write down the eurail pass price and then the airfare. I've gotten deals of Cleveland - London for $550 and NYC - Dublin for $400, so it can be affordable to get over there.
Next is hostels. Hostels will cost between $15-30, if you try to find cheap beds and don't worry about a room to yourself. Search hostelz.com and check out a few places in cities you'd like to go to for a good estimate of exact prices. You can also save some money on housing by sleeping on the train, train stations, airports or staying up to watch the sunrise over the beautiful city skylines you'll come across and nap in parks during the day. These aren't the most comfortable, but if you do it (mostly taking night trains since you don't waste any daylight sitting on a train) two times a week - that's $50 saved each week.
The next thing is food and how you like to eat. In the book I talk about eating at vendors, markets and cooking in the hostel kitchen for about $7-10 a day. The easiest thing to eat up money is going to restaurants and bars. I'm not telling you never to go out and experience local mom and pop restaurants, just do it sparingly.
After that is research on what you want to spend money on like the Guinness Storehouse, Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Colliseum and whatever else you fancy.

    Plane - $600ish
Train Ticket - $900 (depending on how you plan the trip and which ticket you get)
    Hostels - 75 days x $25 = $1875
    Food - 90 days x $12 = $1080
Fun (Red wine, Beer, museums)- $400
    600+900+1875+1080+400= $4855
Some of the costs can be taken away by eating cheaper, making friends while you're there and sleeping with them and I've heard some people do some odd jobs for hostels or restaurants for room and board, especially for a 3 month trip. Each person is different and that total could be twice as mush if you happen to be high maintenance, need prepared meals and must travel in luxury.
Three months is an amazing amount of time to travel for and I hope you get to do it. Please let me know if this helps!!! Good luck.
